Friday, December 17, 2021 was held at Bercy the event “Next Space: the Recovery, springboard to a new space”, which has highlighted the new directions of French space policy through projects funded by France Relance, 1 year after the launch of the space component of the program. On this occasion, CNES launched a call for projects for the demonstration or validation in flight of payloads or equipment for nanosatellites, to which some 20 companies responded. Of the applications submitted, three were selected for funding under the France Relance plan. Among these new winners, Oledcomm, a LiFi pioneer, will have the opportunity to use its technology for the progress of the space sector.
The LiFi project, when Oledcomm reinvents Internet in spaceLiFi, a wireless light communication technology, is revolutionizing connectivity and is not limited to the ground. Already applied to the education, transportation, and aeronautics sectors, LiFi has all the makings of becoming indispensable to the blossoming space sector of tomorrow. This technology, which is based on LED light, offers ultra-fast, reliable connectivity, and operates without electromagnetic waves. This last point is a major breakthrough for the aeronautics and space sectors, as it eliminates the problem of interference between Internet equipment and other electronic devices on board. But that’s not all. The LiFi installation, because it does not require any anti-interference facing, is much lighter than a WiFi installation and would significantly reduce the load on spacecraft. A decisive factor when we know the impact of weight in the performance and costs of such a device. One thing is certain, the application of LiFi in space will soon be a reality.
